It was all good. I never thought of rest is found in working for the Lord. I also like that to rest is to trust in Jesus and to remind ourselves that loving, all-powerful God is with us and for us in our work.
As a brand new, inexperienced, perfectionist, first year teacher…I needed this. I struggle with this over and over again. Looking forward to using the resources and I truly appreciate this session!
I loved the message. It was a great balance of practical and encouraging, spiritual connections and helpful ideas. A thought came to me during the message that I should take time to spend with God at the end of my day, after grading/work at night, so I’m not dropping from work directly into bed, from pure exhaustion. I want to listen to this again to get a firmer grasp on that reasoning so I can explain it to anyone I decide to talk about it with. Thank you for the mention of the importance of “working hard,” not toward laziness – and that both “work” and “Sabbath” were instituted in the beginning.
Like you said, “trust” is a big part of Sabbath observance – it takes trust to set down the work and leave it until the Sabbath is over. Thank you for a well-organized and presented session. I was blessed.
I just heard a sermon this weekend about the Sabbath – coincidence? I think not! 😉 I’d encourage everyone to study about the Sabbath and learn about the amazing gift that it is! I wish I could find the link to the sermon I heard, but I can’t right now 🙁
I appreciate the reminder that “prioritizing” something means identifying it as a priority, or as most important, and being intentional in scheduling that thing during a time in which you can successful in attending to it.
This session was a reassuring reminder that rest is not found in finishing our work, but in trusting Jesus as we do the work. When we align our time, priorities, and identity with Him, our souls can rest—even in seasons of busyness.
This has been amazing. Blocking in time for rest was my take away. I schedule everything else never thought to do it with rest as well!
Our worth is fixed!
Thank you so much for this! I really need to remember who I work for. I want Him to have all of the glory, so I need to find His rest.
A great reminder that we need to work as unto the Lord, which includes being good stewards of our time so we can rest and work well.
Great reminder to rest in the Lord. Seek ye first the kingdom…
I really needed to hear this! I have been working 60 hours, new year, new school district, new subject area, and it has just left me empty. This week on a break, all sessions have been extremely helpful. I love the idea of scheduling priority tasks- it’s easier said than done!
We cannot get everything done during contract hours. Yet I see teachers who spend their prep times in the hall or lounge visiting with other people. Then they complain about having to take work home or stay after contract times.
I know that God is with me in this work, but I am rather isolated in my location and job description. Sometimes I just crave a human with whom to talk, laugh, and collaborate.
I had a college professor whose calendar on his door showing his office hours had “M.H.” for 45 minutes a day. That stood for Mental Health. He said he needed the time to go for a walk. Probably great advice for all of us to put it on the calendar in ink (or capital letters if you use a digital calendar).
Good session. Thank you.
Thank you for always adding Scripture to your recommendations on how to REST. My favorite is following God’s pattern for rest and work. That brings us back to the word to know God’s pattern and making us self-examine.
We need to spend our limited time and energy on the things that matter most. This is so hard to remember in the midst of all the requirements.
Working heartily unto the Lord and the explanation of that along with Sabbath. Also loved the practical helps to set aside the most important tasks each week and each day and to block that time and protect it; and to pre-decide what hours I work where and when and having someone help hold me accountable to that. Thank you for the resources as well!
“Bring God into this.” Hard meetings, exhaustion from planning lessons and difficult behaviors, etc. I forget sometimes that God is with me and that He has good plans for me. This is my reminder today to be more aware and allow it to guide my words and actions in all things. Thank you!
Thank you, Linda! Your heart for teachers is very evident. I love how you gave us time to apply what you taught about rest, work, and priorities. You really shared God’s heart for us in a very practical way.
